The Greater Shepparton Women’s Charter Alliance Advisory Committee (GSWCACC) is encouraging members of the Greater Shepparton community to nominate an inspirational woman for the 2015 Victorian Honour Roll of Women.
The Victorian Honour Roll of Women is a Victorian State Government initiative that aims to recognise and celebrate the great achievements of inspirational women in the community.
Previous Victorian Honour Roll of Women inductees from the local area include:
GSWCAAC member Kate Montgomery believes it would be great to see more women from the local community nominated.
“The Greater Shepparton community has many women who have made a real difference and who are inspirational in their efforts to contribute to the wider community,” said Ms Montgomery.
“The Victorian Honour Roll for Women is a great way to acknowledge the achievements of women who have made a tangible contribution. Previous inductees are inspirational role models to us all,” said Ms Montgomery.
Applications for the Victorian Honour Roll of Women are assessed by an independent panel of women leaders from business, government and community sectors. The panel then provides the recommendations to the Minister for Women's Affairs for her final decision.
The Greater Shepparton Women’s Charter Alliance Advisory Committee (GSWCAAC) is a community advisory committee of the Greater Shepparton City Council, and is part of a broader network of Local Government Area (LGA) advisory committees across the state that are guided and informed by the Victorian Local Government Women’s Charter.
The Committee is made up of volunteers and, with Council support, aims to increase women’s participation in key decision making forums in the community and in democratic governance. The Committee supports three main principles: Gender Equity, Diversity, and Active Citizenship.
Applications can be made online at: www.dhs.vic.gov.au/womenshonourroll. Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 5 September 2014.
