Stage One of the Infrastructure works for the Mooroopna West Growth Corridor housing development are nearing completion with all projects going to plan.
The works within the Mooroopna West Growth Corridor (MWGC) have been partly funded under the Building Better Regional Cities (BBRC) program. The BBRC Program invests in infrastructure projects to support an increase in the number of homes for sale in communities that are experiencing positive jobs and population growth.
The corridor is bounded to the east by the existing western residential edge of Mooroopna, the Midland Highway to the south, Excelsior Avenue to the west and Cornish/Echuca Roads to the north.
The infrastructure works nearing completion include the design, construction and landscaping of roads and intersections, flood mitigation, the installation of a playground within the public open space and shared bicycle and pedestrian pathway which should all be completed by the end of June. The corridor will ultimately provide 1,600 lots in total.
The Westwood Run and Archer's Field Estates have lots that are now available for sale. The 66 blocks allocated under a grants program with a $40,000 grant for each lot for eligible purchasers were sold within four months of release with a waiting list now in place.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure, Steve Bowmaker, says the take up of the land shows confidence in Greater Shepparton as an attractive regional hub for families and business.
As Greater Shepparton grows and people are settling and working in the community, the demand for housing increases. The development not only provides an economic boost to local business and trades, it also provides an opportunity for purchasers to build affordable homes supported by new infrastructure," said Mr Bowmaker.
"The design of the two estates includes flood swales, attractive landscaping and lots of open space with interconnecting shared bike and footpaths providing room for families for leisure and exercise."
"The construction of new roads through the estates will link up areas of Mooroopna that previously were quite separate. The shared paths will also provide a safe alternative bike route for people who like to ride to work or cycle for leisure which is a priority in the Council's Cycling Strategy Plan."
"Once the infrastructure is complete the developers can release lots for sale and the builders will start constructing homes. Included in the corridor in future stages will be a community hub which will provide Council services and facilities for use by residents," said Mr Bowmaker.
