Greater Shepparton City Council will be doing some maintenance work on the lawn areas in the Queen’s Gardens on Friday 8 December to ensure the gardens look their best for the Christmas holiday period.
Manager Parks, Sport and Recreation Heath Chasemore said council staff will be scarifying the lawn for a few hours in the morning from 6.30am to 10am.
“Scarifying is an extremely beneficial procedure where excess grass sprigs are removed promoting healthy turf growth. It is best done in the growing season when there is quick growth and recovery.”
“It’s typically carried out in spring or early summer in shady areas like Queens Gardens,” said Mr Chasemore.
“As staff will be using heavy equipment we will close the Queens Gardens for a short time to ensure the safety of the public.”
“There will be tractors towing specialist scarifying machinery which also picks up the excess grass. We are asking pedestrians not to enter the park during this time for their own safety. There will be barrier tape on bollards advising that the park is closed.
“If you normally use Queens Gardens on your early morning commute to work please be aware this will be closed on Friday morning and you will need to find an alternative,” he said.
“We look forward to Queen’s Gardens being revitalised and seeing you at the next community event - Carols by Candlelight on Sunday 17 December when the lawns will be looking fantastic again.”
