Old Dookie Road was officially opened today by Federal Member for Murray, Damian Drum and Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Kim O’Keeffe.
Old Dookie Road was widened after Council was successful in securing Regional Infrastructure Funding to upgrade the road between Wheeler Street and Doyles Road. The overall redevelopment cost $1.45m and the road construction works were carried out by Mawson Constructions at a cost of $1.2m; other works included design project management and service relocations.
Mayor Kim O’Keeffe said “Old Dookie Road works have made the road safer for commuters and trucks to travel on. Now the project is completed it will improve the movement of freight and provide better access to industry within the area. The upgrade connects the Shepparton East industrial zone to the Shepparton Alternate Route and proposed GV Bypass becoming an important component in the East West passage. Ultimately it will help reduce the number of trucks within Central Shepparton”.
“I would like to thank the Australian Government for their commitment to provide safer, more efficient national road network. Council are very proud to have a project that was opened for traffic ahead of expected date in September.”
“I would like to thank everyone for their patience during the works; we can all now enjoy a safer, more efficient and smoother road,” said Cr O’Keeffe.
