Greater Shepparton City Council wishes to advise the community that Nixon Street between Wyndham Street and Welsford Street will be closed to through traffic from Friday 15 June to Friday 11 August as part of the Welsford Street redevelopment works.
The closure is necessary in order to complete the required construction works, and access will remain open for businesses in Nixon Street from the Wyndham Street entrance.
Welsford Street from Knight Street to Fryers Street remains closed to south bound traffic, with the proposed detour through Wyndham Street (Goulburn Valley Highway) to High Street (Midland Highway). The drainage works are nearing completion and excavation for pavement and tree cells will commence next week. This will require the diversion to start further south of the road at the turning lane in front of Council offices.
“We apologise for any inconvenience to road users, residents and workers in the area, and ask that everyone complies with all traffic management signage to ensure the safety of everyone in the area,” said Greater Shepparton City Council Acting Director Infrastructure Michael Freeman.
“The works are programmed to be completed by the end of August 2017, and upon completion will provide a much safer road for residents, workers, trucks, cyclists and local school children to travel on and enjoy,” said Mr Freeman.
Project updates and traffic management plans are available on Council’s website.
Residents can subscribe via Council’s website to receive regular email updates about the project works.
