Greater Shepparton City Council is seeking community input regarding the Draft Resource Recovery Precinct Feasibility and Site Selection Study.
Resource recovery includes biological waste processing and materials recycling, such as composting, biogas cogeneration, and metal, glass, and paper recycling.
The Draft Study reviews the existing resource recovery facilities and explores options for the expansion of the current site at Daldy Road, Shepparton North. The Draft Study identifies six new potential sites for the location of a resource recovery precinct.
The potential sites are located at:
The Draft Study also explores the likely demand for certain waste and resource recovery operations, and details appropriate land sizes required to accommodate each of these.
Greater Shepparton Mayor, Cr Dinny Adem said “there are significant challenges in accommodating materials recycling facilities, eco-industries and other such land uses in Greater Shepparton due to the large buffer distances required”.
“The Greater Shepparton Resource Recovery Precinct Feasibility and Site Selection Study provides Council with an exciting opportunity to attract new industrial businesses to Greater Shepparton,” Cr Adem said.
“The Draft Study will open the door for unique and sustainable recycling ventures to relocate to our region, providing economic and environmental benefits. I encourage community members to have their say on this important study.”
Members of the public are invited to make a submission to Council regarding the contents of the Draft Study. The closing date for submissions is Monday 15 February 2016.
