Greater Shepparton City Council will be reducing rates for all animals available for adoption in the lead up to Christmas in the hope that they will find their ‘forever’ homes. The new reduced rates will be available until 12noon on 23 December 2014.
Manger Citizen Services, Laurienne Winbanks, said “We have listened to community feedback and we are hoping that the community will turn to us to find their new addition to the family.”
“We are looking for responsible pet owners to adopt our lovely animals and encourage residents to make a trip to the Animal Shelter. Over the next two weeks, our feline friends will be priced between $80 and $120 and dogs will range from $100 to $150. All animals available for adoption will be microchipped, desexed, vaccinated and registered.”
“We have been asked what we can do to increase the number of animals being adopted and so have decided to trial a new fee structure for adoption,” said Ms Winbanks.
“This does not change our requirements that animals are adopted into responsible homes and that owners understand the ongoing costs and responsibilities of pet ownership.”
“When residents adopt a pet, they need to consider it is for the long term and not just a fluffy Christmas present. Responsible pet owners will understand when adopting an animal that it is a pet for life.”
Greater Shepparton City Council Animal Shelter is open from 8.30am till 4.30pm Monday to Friday in Wanganui Road, Shepparton and can be contacted on 5832 9794.
