Round 1 of Greater Shepparton City Council’s 2017/18 grants programs are now open and the community is encouraged to take a look at the range on offer and make an application.

The Our Sporting Future, Community Arts Grants, Minor and Major Event Grants, Community Matching Grants, Community Sustainability Grants, Greater Shepparton Greater Health Grants, Small Town Festive Grants, Australia Day Grants and Festive Event Grants are all currently open for application until 5.00pm Monday 31 July 2017.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Johann Rajaratnam said the grants are a great opportunity for the community to get financial assistance for projects or activities that need funding.
“Council provides assistance to community organisations for worthwhile projects that meet the criteria,” he said. “There are lots of small groups in our municipality that could do with a helping hand and we are keen to provide funds to see some of these projects off the ground,” said Mr Rajaratnam.
The Community Sustainability Grants will support the development and implementation of projects and events, which will go to achieving sustainability and waste reduction related actions within the Environmental Sustainability Strategy. Grants are available up to $2000 per project. Funding is available for a wide range of projects including development of education programs, waste reduction projects, community gardens, field days, workshops, energy efficiency, alternative energy, water efficiency and sustainable building design.
Community Arts Grants of up to $2,500 will support the development and implementation of community arts activities and projects as part of Council’s commitment to participation in the arts.
The Community Matching Grants offer grants up to $2,500 to support one-off projects which build or strengthen Greater Shepparton communities and benefit the community.
The Minor and Major Events Grants offer funding for both small events ($500 - $2,000) and major events ($2,000 - $5,000). These grants are for projects that aim to increase visitation and event tourism to the Greater Shepparton area and to maximise the economic benefits to our community from scheduled festivals, cultural events, business events, major events and sporting activities.
The Our Sporting Future Program assists community sporting organisations with the implementation of small to medium sized facility development projects and development programs for new and emerging sporting organisations across the municipality. The Our Sporting Future program offers three components – Minor (up to $15,000 with a $1 to $1 contribution), Major (up to $30,000 with a $1 to $1 contribution) and Sports Aid (up to $5,000). New in this round is the Sports Aid category can now support clubs with planning projects.
The Greater Shepparton Greater Health Grant encourages the local community to explore different approaches and initiatives that will improve community health and wellbeing through health promotion or prevention models. Grants are available up to $500 per project.
The Small Town Festive grants and Festive Event grants will provide funding for up to ten small towns in Greater Shepparton to enable local community organisations to purchase and install festive decorations such as lighting, Christmas trees, signage and banners and support festive events such as Carols by Candlelight.
The Australia Day grants are open to support local events for the 2018 Australia Day.
