The Federation Internationale De Volleyball (FIVB) World Tour begins on 1 February at Victoria Park Lake and will run until 4 February.
Two temporary purpose-built courts and a warm-up court have been constructed, and a 500-seat grandstand erected at the Victoria Park Lake precinct. The event will see teams competing from 17 countries, with national and international TV and media exposure for Greater Shepparton and will generate up to $1million in economic stimulation.
The FIVB has attracted Vanuatu’s players Miller Pata, Linline Matauatu, Loti Joe and Sherysyn Toko. Players from, Canada, Cyprus, Fiji, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, United States, Venezuela will compete.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Kim O’Keeffe is very excited to see this event back in Shepparton. It is a great opportunity to see the beach come to Victoria Park Lake with two beach volleyball courts.
“Greater Shepparton residents have the opportunity to see the best volleyball players in action from around the world. Many players are coming to Shepparton as a prelude to the Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast”.
“I encourage everyone to come to Victoria Park Lake and enjoy the Volleyball players and enjoy carnival atmosphere. We are expecting around 15,000 visitors to this event and this will create a positive economic impact for the local community a” said Cr O’Keeffe.
In conjunction with the World Tour there will be a Food Truck Carnival from the Thursday evening through to the Sunday evening, making the international sporting event even more special for visitors to Greater Shepparton.
The Beach Carnival will have over 15 food trucks, entertainment, amusement rides and fireworks. Greater Shepparton City Council is partnering with the Food Truck Carnival Co to deliver this event.
Entry to the volleyball is free from Thursday to Saturday while tickets for Sunday’s Volleyball Finals can be purchased from Volleyball Australia www.volleyballaustralia.org.au
