Word and Mouth presents Halloween Fest 2016

Aimed at young people between the ages of 12-25, the event promises to be a great night celebrating the American custom that is becoming more and more popular in Australia.

“The night will consist two halves; the first of which is for the under 15’s and the families, where we will play some games and even have some healthy eating alternatives”, said Jim Gow, Project Manager at Word and Mouth.

“Then we get the teens and everyone else to come and make it all a bit more serious and gory, with a screening of ‘The Blair Witch Project’ planned”.

The movie ‘The Blair Witch Project’ is rated MA15+ for Strong Supernatural Themes and Course Language.

“We continue to engage young people by putting on a range of events for young people to do in Greater Shepparton. We too often hear that there is nothing to do in the area for young people and we are constantly looking to change that, however this time we also wanted to make it light hearted for the first half so families can bring their little ones.”

Both halves of the night will include fancy dress competitions, with prizes for best dressed, as well as Halloween themed games and ‘candy’. “After our Zombie event in March, a lot of people were keen to dress up and be a part of it all, and this event for Halloween is now their chance to do so!”

Coming on the back of the recent “Pokemon in the Park” event with a “Girls Day In” event also pending, the organisation is proving that young people can make a positive contribution to the community.

Behind each event sits a committee of 22 young people, aged 13-25, who are keen and dedicated to providing activities for other young people. ”Each activity is driven by that committee”, Mr. Gow said, “and they meet each week to work out what the young people of Greater Shepparton need and want. They would provide nearly 200 volunteer hours each to their community over a single year.”

Every Word and Mouth event is fully supervised, and is a drug, alcohol and smoke free event. The event will be free. This event starts at 5pm and finishes at 7.30 pm for the under 15’s and families, transitioning into a 10pm finish for everyone else.
