Greater Shepparton City Council, in partnership with RiverConnect and the Australian Platypus Conversancy is hosting a presentation about the elusive Rakali or native Water Rat on Monday 17 October.
The session, to be held at the Shepparton Senior Citizens will be presented by Geoff Williams from the Australian Platypus and will outline the biology and key conservation requirements of the Rakali.
The Director of the Australian Platypus Conservancy, Geoff Williams said the water-rat is an extremely attractive mammal.
“Its thick coat of soft fur, dense whiskers, blunt muzzle, partly webbed hind feet, and furry tail, all help create a resemblance to a miniature otter.” Mr Williams said.
The session will also include hints and tips on how to spot the native water rat in the natural environment.
To RSVP, contact RiverConnect on (03) 5832 9700. The session will be held at the Shepparton Senior Citizens Centre on Monday 17 October from 5.30pm.
