Greater Shepparton City Council has prepared Amendment C211 to the Greater Shepparton Planning Scheme which seeks to facilitate the development of the Munarra Centre for Regional Excellence (MCRE) and the Shepparton Sport and Events Centre (SSEC).
The land affected by the Amendment includes the existing Shepparton Sports Stadium, the proposed MCRE, Rumbalara Football and Netball Club and associated adjacent areas for drainage infrastructure.
The MCRE will be a state of the art, purpose-built educational, sporting, cultural and community hub, bringing together Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities. The Amendment will also support the upgrade of facilities at the Shepparton Sports and Events Centre for the benefit of the entire community.
The facilities offered by MCRE and the SSEC will enable significantly expanded capacity to host major sporting, educational and cultural events, which will increase tourist visitation to the Shepparton area and would provide enhanced community infrastructure.
Amongst other benefits to the region, the Amendment is expected to create over 80 direct and 300 indirect construction jobs and further ongoing jobs when complete.
As part of the Victorian Budget 2018/19, the Victorian State Government allocated $23 million for stage one of the MCRE.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Sustainable Development, Geraldine Christou, said a significant upgrade and expansion to the Shepparton Sports and Events Centre will enhance the existing indoor sporting facility and cater to meet likely demand over the next 20 years or more. “It will enable Council to effectively compete with other regional centres for large-scale sporting events. Pending the outcome of the planning scheme amendment and the provision of funding, the upgrades to the facility would be delivered within the next 3-4 years,” said Ms Christou.
Land owners and occupiers of land within close proximity of land affected by Amendment C211 will be directly notified by a letter. Any person can make a submission to the Amendment, should they wish, supporting, objecting or requesting changes to the documentation.
Appointments
In addition, the following date is available for land owners and occupiers to meet with Council officers to discuss the Amendment:
You can arrange a 20 minute appointment by calling the Building and Planning Department on (03) 5832 9730.
