The Greater Shepparton City Council and the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee are inviting nominations for the 2019 Cultural Heritage Awards, to recognise individuals and groups for their work to promote and conserve the Municipality’s cultural heritage.
Award recipients will be honored at the Cultural Heritage Awards Ceremony in April 2019, coinciding with the Australian Heritage Festival.
There are nine Award categories focusing on reuse, restoration or maintenance of a heritage place, research and publications, student/youth contribution, interpretive signage, events and tourism, and other training or awareness-raising contributions.
Eligible entries may be culturally significant on aesthetic, historic, scientific, social or spiritual grounds, for past, present or future generations. They may represent physical elements such as buildings, monuments, landscapes, books, artworks or artifacts, or intangible heritage such as folklore, traditions, language, knowledge, or associations with related places or objects. Cultural significance may be embodied through their fabric, setting, use, associations, meanings, records, or related places and objects.
Greater Shepparton contains a wide variety of cultural heritage places of local, regional and international significance owing to its richly-layered history, dating back over 40,000 years. Our shared history tells the story of who we are as a community, as well as adding character, appeal and interest to our Municipality. We have a unique character and place in Victoria, and it is important to ensure its conservation for present and future generations to view, interpret and appreciate.
Nominated work must relate to the five years prior to the closing date on Friday, 7 December 2018. Entries may be nominated in more than one category, with a separate nomination form for each category.
