Greater Shepparton City Council wishes to advise that Stage 2 works on the Verney Road upgrade are still progressing but have been delayed, with works now estimated to be completed by mid-December 2016.
Council understands the project has been ongoing for some time now with unavoidable delays including a very wet winter, which impacted the delivery of necessary works.
With the weather improving works have recommenced, however unfortunately another issue has been discovered, with Council’s contractor locating underground service points additional to those identified in the design plans. This adds time to the project as the points need to be relocated by the relevant service provider.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Infrastructure Steve Bowmaker said, "a recent analysis from the Bureau of Meteorology shows that for the 6 month period from May to October, less than 30 per cent of days were available to do works on the project due to wet weather and the time taken to pump out water and dry the sub pavement. This has been exacerbated by the recent discovery of Telstra services that need to be relocated, and Telstra and its contractors are doing their best to get the works done quickly. It’s inevitable in these situations that the project will be delayed and we thank the community for their ongoing patience."
Greater Shepparton residents are invited to attend an information session to discuss the project with Council Officers and raise any concerns or questions they have. The session will be held as per the following:
Date: Wednesday 23 November 2016
Time: 5:30pm to 6:30pm
Location: Shepparton Christian College, 155 Verney Road Shepparton.
