Greater Shepparton City Council awarded several grants to a variety of community groups and projects at last night’s Ordinary Council Meeting held in Mooroopna.
Mayor Cr Kim O’Keeffe said the grants were important for community groups who relied on volunteers. “The benefit of the grants is in providing programs and improvements to groups who are putting back into the community.”
“These are worthy causes and I encourage anyone to take a look at the criteria for grants and ensure they are aware of the timelines for applications,” said Councillor O’Keeffe.
There were grants provided in several categories:
Our Sporting Future
The Our Sporting Future Funding Program was established to assist community organisations with the implementation of small to medium sized facility development projects.
Greater Health Grants
The Greater Health grants have been implemented to encourage local community, sport and ‘not for profit’ organisations to explore different approaches to implementing health prevention events or ideas that may inspire positive health behaviours, healthy eating practices or improved social interaction within the Municipality.
Community Arts Grants
The Community Arts Grant was established to enhance community wellbeing and the development of skills and innovation through artistic pursuits and participation. Funding projects must be able to demonstrate that they are inclusive, have wide community support, and where appropriate, are sustainable following Council’s funding. Funding may be used to conduct arts events, festivals, establish or develop artistic or cultural projects and workshops, build artistic capacity, enable artistic development and innovation or promote excellence in the arts.
Community Matching Grants
Greater Shepparton City Council offers the Community Matching Grants Scheme to support the development and implementation of community projects and activities as a part of Council’s Community Development Framework. Almost $39,000 was provided in grants at the meeting.
Minor and Major Events Grants
Greater Shepparton City Council aims to celebrate the local community and our diverse region through a range of major and community events each year. The various events supported by Council include sporting, cultural, commemorative, festive as well as annual community events. The purpose of the Event Grants program is to provide financial assistance as well as marketing support to groups who are organising events within the Greater Shepparton municipality.
Community Sustainability Grants
The Community Sustainability Grants will support the development and implementation of sustainable projects and events, which will go towards achieving sustainability related actions within the Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
