Protecting the natural environment, revitalising rundown sites and building infrastructure are key priorities for Shepparton and Mooroopna residents, a new report reveals.
The report is a summary of engagement activities undertaken by the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) and Greater Shepparton City Council from 22 February – 25 March this year.
During this period, the VPA and council invited residents to provide feedback on key issues and opportunities that will shape Shepparton and Mooroopna’s future. The VPA and council received 225 comments online, 46 written submissions and met with more than 90 people at face-to-face engagement events.
Feedback generally indicated that the community are supportive of Shepparton and Mooroopna capitalising on new urban growth predicted for the area. A consistent message emerged about the need to better utilise the natural features of the area and to promote these features to encourage more investment. In addition, residents were keen for the agricultural industry to be adequately supported.
VPA Executive Director Regional Victoria, Brett Davis said “The VPA considers feedback from Victorian communities essential, helping us achieve our goal of planning great places.”
“We thank Shepparton and Mooroopna residents for taking the time to provide us with this valuable input and we look forward to progressing the Shepparton & Mooroopna 2050 Regional City Growth Plan.”
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Sustainable Development, Geraldine Christou said “I would like to thank all of those who participated in this process and I look forward to the vision for Shepparton and Mooroopna that will be included in the Draft Shepparton & Mooroopna 2050 Regional City Growth Plan and hearing the community’s views on the plan later this year.”
The VPA and council will use this information to help shape the Shepparton & Mooroopna 2050 Regional City Growth Plan, expected to be released for public review in September 2019.
