Nominations are currently open for the 2019 Cultural Heritage Awards which recognise and honour people or groups who work to promote and conserve the municipality’s cultural heritage.
Presented by Greater Shepparton City Council and the Greater Shepparton Heritage Advisory Committee the awards are held every second year with 2019 being the fourth time the community has been able to apply for an award.
Three of the Award categories focus on reuse, restoration or maintenance of a heritage place, which may be significant for its fabric, setting, use, associations, meanings, records, or related places and objects. Cultural significance may be aesthetic, historic, scientific, social or spiritual.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Sustainable Development, Geraldine Christou, said “Greater Shepparton contains a rich and diverse range of heritage places, both natural and built. Nominated places could be commercial, residential, government or public in nature. These places tell the story of who we are as a community as well as providing interest and appeal to residents and visitors alike, so it is important to ensure its conservation for present and future generations to view, interpret and appreciate.”
Past winners in the Place categories include:
Nominated work must relate to the five years prior to the closing date on Friday, 7 December 2018. Entries may be nominated in more than one category, with a separate nomination form for each category.
Other Award categories commemorate research and publications, interpretive signage, events and tourism, and other training or awareness-raising contributions.
