Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to advise that the three point basketball court construction projects in both Kialla Lakes and Merrigum have been completed.
In Summary
The projects, identified through Community Action Plans and funded through Council’s 2023-2024 capital budget, have been long-awaited facilities for both communities to use and enjoy.
The courts aim to promote physical activity, strengthen social inclusion and community connections, and support young people’s development. The courts in both Kialla Lakes and Merrigum will significantly enhance our community’s health and wellbeing, as well as provide an inclusive space for recreational activities for all ages.
Following the completion of both three point basketball courts, Council’s Community Development team will host launch events at both sites.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, highlighted the importance of both projects and encouraged community members to make the most of these new courts.
“It is fantastic to see both of these projects completed for residents to enjoy. The courts can be utilised for local sport events and tournaments, bringing people together and fostering community spirit,” he said.
The launch events for both courts will feature a basketball clinic by the Shepparton Gators, a basketball shooting machine, giant games and giveaways for all to enjoy. There will also be a coffee van at both events, with the first 60 hot drinks free. Bring your energy and enthusiasm for a fun session of basketball.
The events will take place at the following times:
Merrigum – Wednesday 4 September 2024
Time: 4.00pm to 5.30pm
Location: Morrissey Street, Merrigum, next to the skate park
