Council has made the difficult decision to suspend kindergarten services at Katandra West Kindergarten in 2026.
This is due to insufficient registrations of eligible children to attend the Katandra West service in 2026. Very low registrations can affect the quality of the social, education, and learning environment provided to the remaining children.
Council is working closely with families to register their children in alternative high-quality education and care services, such as Tallygaroopna and the wider municipality. Council will review the decision ahead of 2027.
The families of Katandra West children who are eligible for kindergarten are welcome to contact Council on 5832 9700 or email council@shepparton.vic.gov.au.
Workforce shortages in the early years are being felt nationally, and despite best efforts to recruit and retain staff, Greater Shepparton is no exception. These pressures, however, have not determined the decision to suspend services in Katandra West in 2026.
Council proudly delivers high-quality education and care services to around 700 children annually in the years before school and looks forward to welcoming all eligible families to kindergarten in 2026.
