Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Geoff Akers, highlighted the importance of the Australia Day Awards and encouraged residents to nominate outstanding local citizens who make a difference.
“Australia Day is an opportunity to come together, reflect on what makes our nation special, and celebrate the people who contribute so much to our region. The Australia Day Awards acknowledge individuals and groups whose dedication helps make Greater Shepparton a stronger and more prosperous region,” he said.
“Every town has local heroes whose efforts often go unnoticed. Nominating someone for the 2027 Australia Day Awards is a meaningful way to thank them for their contribution and celebrate the values of generosity, service and connection that Australia Day represents.”
Award winners will be announced on 26 January 2027 with the overall winners for the Greater Shepparton category also being awarded at the Greater Shepparton Australia Day event being held at Shepparton on the day.
