Greater Shepparton City Council officially opened the Tatura Skate Park today, marking a significant milestone for the Tatura community and stakeholders involved in the project.
In Summary
Construction on the new skate park was finished last month, with the site already seeing great use by residents and being enjoyed by skaters, BMX riders and scooter users of all skill levels. The project, included in Council’s 2024/2025 Budget and fully funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LCRI) Program, provides a greatly improved space and a modern facility for Tatura residents and visitors.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, officially opened the facility today alongside stakeholders, saying he was pleased to see how well utilised the site has already been since construction was completed.
“The new Tatura Skate Park is a fantastic improvement from the previous facility. In July 2022, Council undertook an audit of all the skateparks within Greater Shepparton which identified many things, including that the Tatura Skate Park needed an obvious upgrade,” he said.
“Council made a commitment to the residents of Tatura that we would update the skate park and improve the facilities for users, and it is great to now see it complete. The feedback Council has received is extremely positive and we thank the community and user groups for their valuable input in helping bring this new and improved skate park to life.”
The new skate park features a subtle homage to the town’s famous award-winning vanilla slice, with a concrete vanilla slice bench incorporated into the final design.
Cr Rod Schubert, Midland Ward, said the addition of the vanilla slice was the perfect finishing touch to the project.
“I encourage residents to visit and utilise the new Tatura Skate Park - it is a fantastic community facility for the region.”
