In the early hours of Sunday morning on 17 November 2024, a fierce storm swept through Greater Shepparton, leaving behind a trail of fallen trees, branches and debris. In the aftermath, Council's Parks, Sport and Recreation team sprang into action, working tirelessly to restore safety and order to our community.
In the video below, Council's Team Leader - Arboriculture, Parks and Sports Facilities, Katie Wallace, walks us through the clean-up process, highlighting the planning and work that goes into tackling such a massive job.
When a storm strikes, safety is the top priority. The team starts by focusing on clearing roadways and footpaths to ensure that access is restored, hazards are cleared and our community can begin to move forward.
The scale of the clean-up can be staggering. Chainsaws, loaders and trucks are put to work, with crews navigating challenging conditions to remove debris. From clearing blocked roads to addressing hazards in parks and playgrounds, every effort is made to ensure the community’s safety.
While the clean-up process is fast-paced, it’s also carefully coordinated. The team appreciates the community’s patience as they work through a long list of impacted areas. By prioritising the most urgent tasks and methodically addressing each site, they aim to get Greater Shepparton back to its beautiful best as quickly as possible.
