Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Cr Seema Abdullah is encouraging the community to stay focussed, follow restrictions and keep each other safe as new cases of COVID-19 arise in Greater Shepparton.
Greater Shepparton currently has 12 active cases of COVID-19, taking the total cases in the region since the start of the pandemic to 29.
Mayor Cr Abdullah is reminding the community while the increase is worrying, it is not cause for panic.
“While we understand some residents may be feeling stressed or anxious, we have always been aware that this pandemic is a state-wide, nation-wide and world-wide issue,” Cr Abdullah said.
“To think just because we are regional, we are safe or immune, is wrong, and it is dangerous to act in that way.
“Our region is prepared for this, we have a contact tracing team based at GV Health, as well as two testing stations. One testing station at GV Health, which is open seven days a week (8am-5.15pm) and one at Princess Park Clinic.
“We thank GV Health and Princess Park Clinic for their efforts in responding to the pandemic in our region.”
Mayor Cr Abdullah said the community must continue to act in COVID-safe way, and do the things that have helped the region slow the spread to date.
“The simple things we can all do to limit the impact of this virus have not changed. That is washing your hands, keeping 1.5m distance at all times, wearing your mask whenever you leave your house, getting tested and then isolating if you are sick and always following the relevant restrictions.”
Greater Shepparton is currently under Stage 3 restrictions, meaning residents can only leave their home for four reasons; shopping for food and essential items, care, caregiving or compassionate reasons, exercise, and work or study – if you can't do it from home.
“We want to send a sincere thank you to the community for their help to date. This has not been easy, and it is certainly not over yet,” Cr Abdullah said.
“Please look after each other, wear your mask and play your role in slowing the spread of the virus.”
