Works are well underway on Stage 1 of the Maude Street Mall redevelopment project with plans to break before Christmas to minimise disruption to both traders and shoppers at a critical time for retail.
Access to stores in the Maude Street Mall will be maintained throughout the construction period and parking in the surrounding areas will not be affected. People wanting to visit the Mall are encouraged to do so, to support local businesses and shop at the retailers they normally visit.
Contractors Jarvis Delahey and Greater Shepparton City Council are working to reduce the impact on the surrounding businesses. “The timing of the redevelopment stages was carefully planned to make sure the most disruptive works are not done prior to the Christmas shopping period,” said Acting Director Infrastructure Tim Zak.
“Solid plywood hoardings have been erected around the work site to reduce noise and dust and ensure the safety of the public,” said Acting Director Infrastructure Tim Zak.
The redevelopment will be completed in four stages, with expected completion of the entire project by late 2022. Stage 1 is located on the west side of the mall at the Fraser Street entrance.
The works in Stage 1 include demolition, excavation, in-ground service works, concreting and landscaping. The majority of Stage 1 works will be completed by the end of 2021 with playground equipment to be installed early next year.
The new mall design includes the addition of low speed, one-way traffic with on-street parking and is estimated to cost $17.15M.
