Social housing hearings completed

Greater Shepparton City Council heard verbal submissions from residents on the proposal to sell or gift the land above the Maude, Nixon and Edward Streets Car Park on Monday, 7 March and Tuesday, 8 March.

Community consultation on the proposal closed on Monday, 28 February 2022, with 759 submissions received in total. Of these, 16 submitters asked to be heard on Monday and 23 submitters on Tuesday.

The in-person verbal briefings to Councillors form part of that submitter’s submission. They assist Councillors in understanding the views expressed in submissions of nearby residents and the community regarding the proposal to sell or gift the Council-owned car park for future development as social housing.

Following the in-person submissions, Council officers will now prepare a report on the consultation process. The report will incorporate the content of the submissions (which require further assessment and analysis), Council officers’ response to all concerns raised in submissions and a final recommendation on the proposal.

Following this, all submissions and the Council report must then be considered by Council at a formal Council meeting, the date of which is yet to be determined.
