In Summary
- Council's new waste contract with Foott, Biomix, and Cleanaway will commence on 1 February 2025, with no changes to residents' bin collection days.
- Council thanked Veolia and Western Composting Technology for their contributions, highlighting significant milestones like 10 million bin collections and 100,000 tonnes of FOGO diverted from landfill.
- Residents are reminded to place bins on the kerb the night before collection, as collection times may vary, and to report missed collections to Council within 24 hours.
- The Greater Shepparton App and Council’s website provide bin collection schedules, waste disposal information, and resources for reporting issues.
The new contract with Foott, Biomix and Cleanaway was awarded at the March 2024 Additional Council Meeting, and will replace the current contract with Veolia and Western Composting Technology.
The current contract initially commenced with Wheelie Waste, with Veolia taking over the operations in 2019. During Veolia’s time, we have seen:
- An impressive 10 million bin collections across Greater Shepparton
- Approximately 50,000 tonnes of Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) diverted from landfill
- Approximately 30,000 tonnes of recyclable items recovered and recycled
Since 2015 with the introduction of food organics to the green lid bin, Western Composting have also reached incredible waste milestones with approximately 100,000 tonnes of FOGO processed and diverted from landfill.
Council’s Manager Resource Recovery, Liam Moller, thanked both businesses for their long serving commitment to Council and for their efforts in helping improve the region’s resource recovery.
“We would like to recognise and thank both Veolia and Western Composting for their service to Council and our residents,” he said.
“Both businesses have been great to work with and have assisted Council in making positive changes to the region’s waste collection and improvements in diversion from landfill.”
As the new collection service commences on 1 February 2025, residents are reminded that while the truck collecting their bin may be different, the day/collection will not change. To assist in the transition to the new collection service, residents are reminded that:
- Bins needs to be placed on the kerb the night before their bin collection day.
- While the bin collection day will not change, the time of day which your bin may be collected is subject to change. To assist with this, it is important that bins are on the kerb the night before.
- If your bin is not collected, please report the missed collection to Council within 24 hours. For residents on a Friday collection, this period extends to Monday.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while the transition to the new waste contract is undertaken. While significant planning has been undertaken to ensure a smooth transition, there may be matters which arise from time to time,” Mr Moller said.
“To assist Council with the transition, we encourage the community to report any missed collections within 24 hours and make sure bins are placed on the kerb the night before. A reminder that your collection days will not change.
“Council look forward to working with the new contractors Foott, Biomix and Cleanaway, and continuing to improve our region’s resource recovery.”
