Learn new skills and take action at Caring for Nature Camp

The camp will take place in Greater Shepparton from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 October 2024. Young adults aged 18-35 are invited to participate in this two-night immersive experience, designed to educate on environmental issues, create positive memories and inspire continued contribution to nature.

Participants will have the opportunity to be immersed in bushland and river landscapes promoting a greater understanding and appreciation of local ecosystems. Attendees will engage in land restoration, learn about native flora and fauna, and develop conservation skills.

Expressions of interest to participate in the Caring for Nature Camp open Friday 9 and close Friday 23 August. Young adults are encouraged to apply and save their spot via shepp.city/nature-camp. Preference will be given to those from, or connected to, the local Goulburn Broken catchment area, however all are welcome to apply.

The camp includes guest speakers, practical experiences and meals, with pricing as follows:

$175 General
$50 Concession (e.g. health care card holder, full time students)

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Shane Sali, encouraged young residents to sign up and participate in this hands-on experience.

“A first for our region, we are looking forward to seeing the camp come to life. This is a fantastic opportunity for young adults in the community to be active, learn new skills and connect with our regional landscape,” he said.

“Council encourage local young adults to sign-up and be part of this unique hands-on experience, get advice from experts in the field and discover the wonderful outdoor opportunities available in the region.”

RiverConnect Project Officer, Alison White, invited young adults to apply via the expression of interest and take action for the environment.

“Co-designed with participants, the camp’s pro-active approach contributes to biodiversity preservation, supports local ecosystems and fosters a sense of responsibility for Victoria’s unique environment,”

What better way to learn and connect with other likeminded people, than through a unique immersive camping experience.”

The RiverConnect Caring for Nature Youth Camp is supported by the Victorian Government through the Environmental Volunteering Pilot – Hume program and the Australian and Victorian Governments in response to the October 2022 flood event which impacted Victorian communities in Greater Shepparton.
