Greater Shepparton City Council is reminding residents that pet registrations are due in a few days, with a deadline of Thursday 10 April 2025.
All cats and dogs over three months of age must be registered to ensure they are identifiable, safe, and legally compliant. Free registration is available for pets under six months old.
Council’s Director Sustainable Development, Geraldine Christou, urged pet owners to take action now to avoid late penalties and help support vital animal services.
“Registering your pet is a simple but essential step in being a responsible pet owner. It helps reunite lost pets with their owners and supports important animal management services across our region,” she said.
“With registration fees starting from just $50 per year for desexed animals, and discounts available for pensioners, it is an affordable way to ensure your pet’s safety.”
All pets must be microchipped before they can be registered. Additionally, all cats must be desexed unless exempt under the Domestic Animals Act 1994. When registering an animal for the first time, owners need to provide relevant documents, including microchipping and desexing certificates, and any applicable concession cards for discounted fees.
Pet owners who have already registered their pets should have received a renewal notice in the mail. If you have not yet renewed, now is the time to do so to avoid penalties.
New registrations and renewals can be completed online via the Council website or in person at Council’s Customer Service Centre at 90 Welsford Street, Shepparton.
For further information on registering your pet, please visit our Animal Registrations page, call Council on 5832 9700 or email council@shepparton.vic.gov.au.
