Posted on
Thursday 4th of September, 2025,
Greater Shepparton City Council is inviting LGBTIQA+ community members, local organisations, and allies to express their interest in joining the LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee.
The Committee plays a vital role in providing advice, information and feedback on matters relevant to LGBTIQA+ individuals and communities. Members also support the implementation of Council’s LGBTIQA+ Action Plan and contribute to the recognition and celebration of days of significance.
Since its establishment in 2021, the Committee has championed a range of initiatives including the Pride flag installation, the Ruby Cow artwork, town entry flags, development of the LGBTIQA+ Action Plan, providing input into the Council Plan, and supporting various local causes.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, encouraged interested people and groups to consider applying.
“Council has a range of advisory committees to provide the community with an opportunity to share advice, suggestions and feedback on topics they are passionate about,” he said.
“I encourage residents to put their hand up to join a committee as it is a great opportunity to have your voice heard and help strengthen the region.”
Chair of the LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee, Councillor Sam Spinks, said the Committee plays an important role in shaping a more inclusive region.
“This Committee provides a platform to make sure LGBTIQA+ voices and perspectives are heard and respected,” she said.
“By joining, you will be contributing to positive change, supporting equality, and ensuring Greater Shepparton continues to grow as a welcoming and inclusive community.”
Expressions of Interest are open to:
Local organisations that work directly with the LGBTIQA+ community
Individuals identifying as LGBTIQA+ with strong community links and relevant skills
