Greater Shepparton City Council is asking residents of the municipality to help map our creative landscape and identify opportunities for creativity in our community as part of the Creative City Strategy.
Greater Shepparton City Council Director Community, Kaye Thomson, said the goal of the Creative City Strategy is to position Greater Shepparton as a city that encourages and celebrates creativity.
“The Creative City plan will identify areas where Council will be required to encourage, influence or facilitate change. We understand that creatives are part of a community based industry but Council is here to support and drive change where needed,” said Ms Thomson.
“We are asking our community to fill out a very short survey on what creative genres we do well and as a community where we can make improvements to nurture and encourage a thriving creative industry.”
The creative city can include music, visual arts, performing arts, craft, streetscape and buildings, digital industries, street art, events and festivals, visitor experiences and tourism and the retail industry.
“There is the opportunity to be a part of the Advisory Group which will be formed to oversee the Creative City Action Plan for the next five years,” said Ms Thomson. “If you have an interest in the creative landscape of Greater Shepparton you can submit an expression of interest after the survey.”
“Whilst Council is managing this project we are also working with the Committee for Greater Shepparton and others to develop the right environment for creative industries to flourish,” she said.
Feedback is due by Wednesday 21 April. To have your say on the Creative City Strategy for Greater Shepparton visit Shaping Greater Shepp or contact Council on 5832 9700 for more information.
