Lighting upgrades at the Shepparton Cycling Precent Velodrome are set to get underway, with Greater Shepparton City Council noting the awarding of the contract to a local company at its November Council Meeting.
In Summary
The contract for $183,139 was awarded to Watters Electrical Pty Ltd, with the project enhancing the lighting on the four existing light towers to support local club training and competition activities.
The improved lighting will meet the required AusCycling 300 LUX standard and will support local club training and competition activities, as well as ensuring the venue supports the requirements for major BMX major events, including warm-up requirements, team pit areas, and pre event staging components.
The upgrade is part of the Victorian Government's Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, which also includes delivering the Shepparton BMX Multi Use Events Pavilion and upgrades to the Shepparton BMX Start Hill and Track. The contracts for these projects have already been awarded, with works underway.
Works on the lights are scheduled to commence in December with expected completion before the Christmas break, ensuring minimal disruption to the community and event schedules. The works will be completed in time to host the annual Shepparton Cycling Club Christmas Track carnival at the end of December.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the project reflects Council’s commitment to enhancing local sports facilities and supporting Greater Shepparton’s thriving sporting community.
“Upgrading the lighting at the Shepparton Cycling Velodrome is an important step in supporting our local cycling community and enhancing Greater Shepparton’s reputation as a premier sporting destination,” Cr Sali said.
“These improvements will ensure the velodrome meets the needs of local clubs for training and competition, while also accommodating major events which attract participants and visitors to our region.
“Congratulations to Watters Electrical on being awarded this contract. It is fantastic to see this money reinvested back into the community to support local businesses.”
