Cr Kim O’Keeffe was elected Mayor for Greater Shepparton City Council for the coming 12 months at today’s Council Meeting.
Cr O’Keeffe previously served as Mayor in 2018 and 2019.
Cr Rob Priestly was elected Deputy Mayor for the coming 12 months. It is Cr Priestley’s first term on Council.
In her Mayoral address following the election, Mayor Cr O’Keeffe said she was looking forward to leading the community in the COVID-19 recovery.
“It’s a big job, but coming into COVID-19 recovery I am really delighted to be in this position because I feel I have what it takes to be there for the community, as we all (the nine Councillors) do. I am going to do as much as I can within my Council role,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
“I’d like to thank Cr Abdullah for her past 12 months in the Mayoral role. It is has an incredibly difficult year and Cr Abdullah did an incredible job, so thank you to Cr Abdullah for everything she has done for our community.
“I’d also like to acknowledge my fellow Mayoral nominees and thank them for putting their hand up and wanting to serve the community.
“I believe we begin a new and exciting chapter for Council with six new Councillors, and I am very excited and looking forward to what we can achieve in the next four years.
“We are a team of nine, and as the Mayor I am part of the team and I want all Councillors to be involved in everything I do, and I will be there encouraging and supporting everyone as much as I can.
“We are all going to work as a team and be positive for our community.”
Council also adopted the Councillors Statement of Expectations for the Mayor, which can be found under the November Council Meeting tab here.
