The Greater Shepparton community is encouraged to provide their thoughts and suggestions on the future of play spaces in Greater Shepparton after Council released the draft Play Space Strategy 2020-2030 for public exhibition at the September Council Meeting.
The community will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the draft Strategy for a period of six weeks commencing on 26 October 2020 and concluding on 7 December 2020.
The draft Strategy is a revitalised version of the previous Playground Provision Strategy 2006-2018, now including associated items at playgrounds including shade and seating.
The purpose of the draft Strategy is to set a vision for the future of play spaces in Greater Shepparton, outlining the needs of the community and actions required to achieve that vision. It provides a long-term goal for how play spaces will be developed, upgraded, managed and maintained.
The Strategy includes an analysis of the distribution, quality of play experiences, age groups catered for, access and improvement opportunities of existing play spaces within Greater Shepparton.
The number of play spaces spread across Greater Shepparton has increased in the last 15 years from 64 to 88, highlighting Council’s commitment to play spaces in the municipality.
“Council thinks play in Greater Shepparton should be fun, it should be inclusive and non-prescriptive, it should cater for all ages and meet community needs,” Mayor Cr Seema Abdullah said.
“Council has invested significantly in play spaces in recent years and the draft Play Space Strategy 2020-2030 further outlines our commitment to them.
“We hope residents will take the opportunity to have their say on this draft document and shape play in Greater Shepparton for the next decade.”
The draft Strategy does not cover private facilities, specific areas such as skate parks, organised sporting venues, bike tracks and outdoor fitness equipment and the like.
The Draft Play Space Strategy 2020-2030 will be on Council’s website for feedback on 26 October.
