At the June Council Meeting, Greater Shepparton City Council resolved to note the conclusion of the community consultation process on the potential future sale, lease or gift of part of the Council-owned land at 84-90 High Street, Shepparton, the High and Rowe Streets Car Park.
Council also resolved to commence preparations for the Expression of Interest (EOI) process for development of this site.
Council consulted with the community earlier this year on the potential future sale, lease or gift of part of the Council-owned land, with the consultation receiving a total of 121 written submissions and five verbal briefing presentations. Council officers then considered and reviewed each of these submissions and verbal briefings, including all material provided by submitters.
In response to these submissions and briefings, Council officers prepared a Conversation Report outlining the consultation process, the common themes identified in the submissions received, and Council officers’ responses to each of these themes.
“Councillors considered all of the information provided to us and voted to go through to the next stage of the process, which is commencing preparations for an Expression of Interest to be released for the development of the site. The next stage will assess a wide range of mixed use proposals which still include a component of affordable housing,” Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali said.
“We thank the community for providing us with their feedback during the consultation process.”
Prior to any EOI process commencing, a preliminary assessment of the High and Rowe Streets Car Park will be undertaken to identify any physical, legal, or other constraints upon the proposed development of the site which might impede future development.
“This decision is another step in the process towards Council investigating potential sites for CBD living. While this step allows for an EOI process to be undertaken, any consideration regarding potential future development of the site will come back to a Council Meeting for further consideration,” Cr Sali said.
