Greater Shepparton residents are encouraged to have their say on Greater Shepparton City Council’s draft Economic Development, Visitor Economy, and Major Events Strategy (EDVEMES) 2024 – 2028 after it was released for public consultation at last Tuesday’s Ordinary Council Meeting.
In Summary
The Greater Shepparton EDVEMES is designed to guide regional growth and development for Greater Shepparton over the next five years. It will act as an important strategic document for Council to identify opportunities to promote economic, community, and employment growth outcomes through the key pillars of Economic Development, Visitor Economy, and Major Events.
Council engaged Urban Enterprise Pty Ltd to complete the strategy and undertake an extensive engagement program with background research, benchmarking, and consultation with a variety of key stakeholders, Council departments and the public providing significant input.
The Strategy highlights outcomes that can be achieved within the region, with the objectives aiming to increase local consumption, grow and expand the jobs base, improve liveability outcomes for residents, increase business and infrastructure investment, increase the value of the visitor economy and enhance the economic benefits of tourism and events.
Mayor, Cr Shane Sali, highlighted the importance of giving feedback, encouraging community members to have a read and provide their thoughts on the draft document.
“We encourage residents to take a look at the draft strategy which aims to achieves long term and sustainable growth through a resilient and productive community, business base, tourism industry and event sector,” he said
“We particularly want to know the community’s thoughts on the five year plan, what they like, what they are most excited for and if they think there is anything missing from the draft strategy.”
The draft EDVEMES is now ready for public consultation, with the document available for feedback for five weeks from Monday 3 June to Sunday 7 July 2024. All feedback will be considered and assessed, before the final version of the strategy is considered for adoption at a future Council Meeting. You can give your feedback via the Shaping Greater Shepparton website.
