Greater Shepparton City Council has adopted its updated Road Management Plan following a period of public consultation earlier this year, with the document setting out how Council manages, maintains and repairs its local road network.
The Road Management Plan, adopted at Tuesday’s August Council Meeting, outlines how often different types of roads and infrastructure are inspected, what Council looks for during those inspections, and how quickly Council will respond when issues or defects are identified. It also describes the systems and processes Council uses to prioritise works and allocate resources, ensuring that repairs and maintenance are carried out in a fair, consistent and transparent way.
The plan includes not only the roads themselves, but also associated assets such as footpaths, kerbs, drains and the vegetation within road reserves.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the adoption of the updated Road Management Plan strengthens Council’s commitment to maintaining safe and reliable road infrastructure for the community.
“Council has a duty of care to ensure our roads are inspected, maintained and repaired in a way that supports the safety of all road users,” he said.
As part of the update, the plan has been transitioned into the new Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) template, which allows greater consistency across all Victorian councils while enabling each council to set appropriate standards for their local context. Minor changes have also been made to reflect updated practices, ensuring Greater Shepparton’s plan remains current, legally robust, and aligned with sector-wide benchmarking and advice.
“Adoption of the plan means we can continue to manage our civil infrastructure in an efficient, equitable and transparent way, ensuring the best outcomes for our residents and visitors,” Cr Sali said.
