Greater Shepparton City Council last night deferred the Shepparton and Mooroopna 2050: Regional City Growth Plan to a future ordinary council meeting to ensure all submissions and other matters are fully considered.
Previously, at the Ordinary Council Meeting held on 18 August 2020, Council resolved to defer consideration of the adoption of the Shepparton and Mooroopna 2050: Regional City Growth Plan (the Growth Plan) for six months to allow time for extended consultation with the Greater Shepparton community.
This additional consultation period started on Monday, 16 November 2020 and closed on Thursday, 24 December 2020. Seventy nine submissions were received.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe, said “the finalisation of the Growth Plan is a significant milestone to ensure Shepparton and Mooroopna’s true potential as a thriving regional city is realised”.
“The Growth Plan is an important strategic document required to properly inform and guide the sustainable development of Shepparton and Mooroopna over the next 30 years”.
“It is imperative that Councillors have sufficient time to consider all submissions received and Council officers’ responses to those submissions ahead of a final Growth Plan,” she said.
If the Growth Plan is adopted by Council at a future OCM, a planning scheme amendment will be prepared to implement the findings of the Growth Plan into the Greater Shepparton Planning Scheme where it will guide development across Shepparton and Mooroopna up to 2050. Any planning scheme amendment is expected take 12-18 months to complete. Further consultation will occur as part of this process.
Further information on the Growth Plan can be found online at Council’s website.
