Community Creatives to receive more than $10,000 in grants awarded by Council

The funding included a total of $10,390 for Round One of the 2023/2024 Creative City Grants Program, with four applicants sharing in the funding.

The Creative City Grant Program aims to ensure that Council’s investment in the arts and creative industries remains relevant and effective, as a part of Council’s Creative City Strategy. The objectives of the Creative City Grants Program are to support local creative talent, contribute to the diversity and vitality of creative activity across our region, encourage active participation in the arts for all and strengthen Greater Shepparton’s identity as a creative city.

Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said it is fantastic to see a large sum of money distributed back into the community which will benefit the region’s creative sector.

“We are always pleased to deliver grants and funding to community groups and organisations which need a helping hand to achieve their goals. Whether that be through projects to help develop new creative works, content, products or services, a new arts component of an existing arts or cultural event, or other relevant projects,” he said.

“We understand how important this grant funding can be and we look forward to seeing these successful applicants put the funding to good use.”

Creative City Grants Program – 2023/24 Round One

Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre	A variety of different activities will take place, including producing metal sculptures, lino cutting and artworks for exhibition. The program will be open to students, allowing them to demonstrate their creative talent via the production of items that will be displayed at various times through the course of the program.	$2,000
Splinter Contemporary Artists	Splinter Contemporary Artists will create collaborative artworks in a range of mediums, culminating in an exhibition Breaking the Surface. These works will be presented at a local Greater Shepparton space. The exhibition will reflect both the vitality and fragility of the natural environment, in particular, the microcosm of organisms and natural materials that exist across the planet, particularly in the Goulburn Valley.	$4,690
Goulburn Valley Writers’ Group Inc.	These workshops will offer an overview of four different writing topics, inviting participants to explore their skills and take away some samples of their own creativity. The planned topics are: Screenwriting or Playwriting ‐ presented by Melissa Black who has worked as script supervisor for several Australian film productions. Crafting a Winning Short Story ‐ presented by Robyn Black, Co‐ordinator of the Furphy Literary Awards, who has worked alongside the judges for this national competition. History based writing ‐ presented by Tracee Spiby, author of a World War 1 book titled "One Hell At a Time". Writing for Children ‐ presented by Suellen Drysdale, author of three children's books and judge for the Junior Short Story section of the Furphy Literary Awards.	$1,200
Are Able Limited	Art‐Able is an initiative aimed at providing a platform for local artists living with disabilities to showcase and sell their artworks to the wider community. The project will organise an exhibition held at an accessible venue, where attendees can appreciate and purchase the displayed art pieces. Each artwork will be accompanied by a description and a short biography of the artist. By facilitating the exhibition and sale of their art, the project seeks to promote inclusivity and provide a supportive environment for artists with disabilities to thrive.	$2,500
