Greater Shepparton City Council invites the community to celebrate Refugee Week 2025 within the region, with four community events being held across the week to mark the occasion.
In Summary
Refugee Week, from Sunday 15 to Saturday 21 June 2025, is Australia’s peak annual activity to promote greater awareness of refugees, the issues they face, and the contributions refugees make to the Australian community.
This year’s theme is ‘Finding Freedom: Diversity in Community’. The week-long celebrations aim to create a better understanding between different communities and encourage successful integration, enabling refugees to live in safety and continue making valuable contributions to their communities.
Each year, Council partners with local organisations and community groups to coordinate several events to celebrate Refugee Week within the region. This year, four events will be held in Greater Shepparton:
Refugee Week Launch
Uniting Refugee Event
Voice of Lele
Refugee Week Afghani Day
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, acknowledged the significance behind the week, encouraging all residents to get involved in the Refugee Week activities.
“We are extremely fortunate to have such a diverse and multicultural community within Greater Shepparton. This diversity brings unique experiences, backgrounds and perspectives which enhance our region,” he said.
“I encourage community members to join in the events taking place across the municipality over Refugee Week and celebrate the contributions refugees bring to our community.”
All the events are free and open for everyone in the community to attend. For more information on Refugee Week activities, visit the event listing on Council’s website here.
