Katie is Council's Team Leader of Arboriculture, Parks and Sports Facilities, and her team are the unsung heroes of our public spaces, ensuring that 26 public toilet facilities and numerous BBQs across the region are clean and accessible.
From the busy parks around Victoria Park Lake to smaller, local gems, the Civic Cleaning Team's work is essential to maintaining the high standard of cleanliness our community deserves. In the video below, Katie gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the effort that goes into keeping our public spaces looking their best.
How often are facilities cleaned?
Not all facilities are used equally, and the team’s cleaning schedule reflects that.
- High-traffic spots like the Water Tower Garden Toilets in Mooroopna are cleaned daily to keep up with demand.
- Smaller or less frequented locations might be serviced once or twice a week, ensuring resources are allocated where they’re needed most.
Katie’s team doesn’t stop at cleaning restrooms and BBQs. They also tackle other essential infrastructure to make sure public spaces are enjoyable for all:
- Pressure washing public seating, picnic tables, and drink fountains.
- Maintaining bike stands and bin surrounds, so everything looks fresh and functional.
How can you help?
Katie reminds us that keeping Greater Shepparton clean is a team effort:
“We encourage residents to report any dirty or damaged facilities to our customer service team. While we do our best to stay on top of things, community reports help us respond more quickly.”
So, if you notice something that needs attention, don’t hesitate to reach out.
