Animal registrations due Friday 10 April

Council is reminding residents that animal registrations for cats and dogs are due by Friday 10 April 2026.
All cats and dogs over three months of age must be registered, with registration free for pets under six months of age.
Registration helps ensure lost pets can be quickly reunited with their owners and supports Council’s animal management services, including the Shepparton Animal Shelter and Animal Rangers.
Residents with registered pets will receive a renewal notice in the mail, and new registrations can be completed via Council’s website.

Registrations for cats and dogs over three months of age are a legal requirement and are free for pets under six months of age.

Registering your cat or dog is one of the most effective ways to ensure they are safely returned to you if they become lost. Registration fees also support Council to deliver a wide range of animal management services including the Shepparton Animal Shelter, Animal Rangers and the investigation and prosecution of serious animal related offences such as dog attacks, animal cruelty and illegal dog or cat breeding.

Council’s Director Sustainable Development, Geraldine Christou, said registering your pet plays an important role in keeping them and the community safe.

“Keeping your pet registered ensures we can quickly reunite you with your animal if they ever go missing. When a registered pet is found, our Animal Rangers can contact the owner immediately,” she said.

“By registering your pet, you’re also helping support important services that benefit animals right across Greater Shepparton.”

Once a registration form is finalised, an identification tag will be issued, which is small and conveniently hung on collars with no discomfort to the dog or cat.

Residents with registered pets will receive a renewal notice in the mail.
