A tree-rrific National Tree Day will recognise 10 years of One Tree Per Child

Greater Shepparton City Council is inviting residents to dig in this National Tree Day on Sunday 26 July 2026 at Tassiker Reserve, Shepparton, with a special celebration marking 10 years of the One Tree Per Child program in Greater Shepparton.

The event highlights Greater Shepparton’s strong connection to the One Tree Per Child initiative, which has played a key role in improving local biodiversity and engaging young people in environmental action. Over the past decade, more than 200,000 indigenous trees, shrubs, grasses and groundcovers have been planted across the region through the program.

The community planting event will bring together families, volunteers and local organisations to connect with nature and contribute to a greener future.
National Tree Day is Australia’s largest community tree planting and environmental care event, encouraging people to get outdoors and take positive action for the environment.

Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, encouraged the community to get involved.

“National Tree Day is a great opportunity for people of all ages to come together and make a positive difference in their local environment,” he said.

“We are proud to celebrate 10 years of One Tree Per Child and the impact it has had across Greater Shepparton. It’s a program that continues to connect young people with nature and leave a lasting legacy for our community.”

Council staff and volunteers will be on site to support participants throughout the morning, with all planting materials provided, including plants, stakes, guards, mats, gloves and tools.

Following the morning planting from 10am to 12pm, attendees can enjoy a free barbecue and activities from 12pm to 1pm, purchase hot drinks from a coffee van, and access native plant giveaways.

Community members are encouraged to register ahead of time.
