2025-2029 Council Plan tracking strongly after first year

Greater Shepparton City Council has reviewed progress of the first year of the 2025-2029 Council Plan, with the latest report showing strong momentum in delivering on the priorities identified by the community.

The report, noted at the September Council Meeting, outlines that of the Plan's 133 actions, two have been completed, 118 are progressing and 13 are scheduled to commence in 2026-2027.

Adopted in September 2025, the Council Plan provides a strategic roadmap for the region and guides Council's decision making, resource allocation and service delivery over a four-year period.

The Council Plan is built around five key strategic outcomes: Economy, Infrastructure, Liveability, Environment and Your Council, reflecting the priorities of Greater Shepparton residents.

Highlights from the first year of implementation include the progression of GV Link Enterprise Park Stage 1, Council receiving the Victorian Multicultural Award for Excellence, the planting of 23,000 indigenous plants through the 2025 One Tree Per Child program, and continued implementation of Council's advocacy strategy with a key focus on the 2026 State Election.

Mayor, Councillor Geoff Akers, said the progress report demonstrated Council's commitment to delivering on the priorities identified by the community.

“The Council Plan was directly informed by our community, so it is important that we continue delivering on the actions and outcomes residents told us matter most,” he said.

“The priorities outlined in the Council Plan help guide Council's work and ensure we remain accountable to our community. It’s great to see significant progress already being made across all five strategic outcomes, and we remain committed to implementing the actions that will help achieve our community's long-term vision.”

Council recently launched an online Council Plan dashboard, providing residents with easy access to information about the Plan, its strategic themes and progress against each action. Since launching in April 2026, the dashboard has been accessed more than 3,000 times by over 2,100 users.
