Greater Shepparton City Council is pleased to officially acknowledge the completion of the Lenne Street Drainage Upgrade, marking a significant milestone in improving stormwater management for the Mooroopna community.

The Lenne Street, Mooroopna area was identified for urgent improvements, with a focus on addressing stormwater issues that have affected the community and creating a plan to increase efficiency of stormwater management.

Council identified improvement opportunities for the existing stormwater drainage network to mitigate the rain event issues in the area during sudden heavy downpours.

The project was split into stage 1 and 2 for the delivery with both stages now marked as complete. Read our media release.

Project overview

The project included the following:

STAGE 1: April to November 2025Read description of completed Stage 1 works
Smyth Reserve Construction:
- Enhanced the retention capacity of Smyth Reserve by reshaping and formalising the invert of the drain to designed levels.
- Services relocated to allow underground infrastructure to be installed linking the reserves.
- Underground stormwater infrastructure installed to link the reserves.
- Bollards installed at Smyth Reserve to protect the functionality of the upgraded storm water drainage.
Howe Street Construction:
- Raised the section of Howe Street adjacent to Smyth Reserve to be above flood level with underground drainage linking Smyth Reserve.
STAGE 2: May to August 2026Read description of completed Stage 2 works
Storm Water Rising Main and Pump Station including Smyth Reserve Upgrade detail design and Construction.
- The stormwater pump station well has been installed on Lenne Street. The pump station was transported from Adelaide on four semi-trailers and was lifted in by a 150tonne crane. The pump and associated equipment will now be installed over the coming weeks.
- Excavation works on the basin behind Rostrata Crescent are approximately 80% complete. Rock beaching has started being placed in the centre of the basin.
- Works have begun clearing way for the shared access track to be constructed behind the basin which will allow emergency service vehicles and pedestrians access to the reserve.
